How long been buidling droids?

Started 3D printing in July 2023

Printing droids since approx. 1.5 years now

What got you into droid building?

Got there by accident. I started with printing a lot of useless things which can be found online for free. Stumbled upon a free BD-1 model after which I have searched for more droids and eventually found Droid Division. Both my hobby and the free space in my house changed dramatically since then 😉

My first one was the Pit Droid and I immediately fell in love with Dave’s work.

Seeing the Pit assembled for the first time was really overwhelming.

I was 12 years old when my grandma took me to the cinema to watch Episode 1. If someone told me back then that someday I would be able to build myself a Pit Droid I would have never dreamed about it being possible.

Today I have 22 DD droids standing in my office at home and in my basement. Most of them printed in 1:1, some in smaller scales.

I was asked to be one of the moderators for the Facebook group and am also part of the amazing beta tester team. I’m extremely thankful for both

Favourite Droid

Big one: security droid

Smaller one: ID-10

Dream Droid (for which I don’t have any space right now): Droideka

Favourite Workshop Tool

Electric foot sander (thanks to Michaela from M.M’s Prop Shop)

What can’t you live without in the workshop?

Good music or a good audiobook

Tips for beginners

– Have fun

– Do it your way, print in color and leave it that way, paint it, weather it, it’s your droid and it will look awesome

– Don’t get intimidated by the more experienced builders sharing in the group. Everyone started somewhere

– Read the instructions, those Pit Droid tighs are backwards!

Final words

I want to thank every single one of the members in the DD Print Club Facebook group! I have never experienced a more friendly, helping and welcoming community anywhere online. It’s a joy to read all those posts and comments, see all those wonderful builds, get inspired and just sharing our love for droids and robots in general.

And the biggest, most heartfelt THANK YOU to the man who puts countless hours of research and work into those files making them so easy for all of us to print: Mr. Dave Moog, thank you for all you do, thank you for trusting in me, thank you for making dreams come true and for building an army of droids around the world. We might need them sooner or later 😉
