The first DD Droids were actually Wooden Droids, pre-printing... I made my static wooden Battle Droid in 2012, quickly followed by my Pit Droid and then my first Gonk, again all scratch built, made from wood, to my own plans. In 2019 I discovered 3D printing, and thought that if I could train myself to 3D model, I might be able to turn my physical Droid building and problem solving skills into virtual Droid building skills. So I got myself learning...

I'm a Droid Builder that learned how to 3D model, not a 3D modeller who turned his hand to building. That training is everything you now see in the DD shoppe.

Years later the Droid Division file making workshop itself is still a small operation. I still design every Droid, Robot, and Blaster set myself right here at my home, for you to print out in the comfort of your own home.

Print-tested means DD quality

Every release gets fast tracked to an amazing group of friends world wide that beta test every print release. They get the files first, print them on their own machines on a range of bed sizes from small to large. I ask for any input, tweak tolerances and hone the in-depth InfoPDF assembly sheet before anyone downloads a file from the site. By the time a model set lands here, it's usually been printed across half-a-dozen workshops worldwide.

The DD PrintClub community

Droid Division online started in 2019 with me proudly posting up my own Pit Droid on FB. I never thought my files would ever be popular enough to warrant a support group, but I was wrong.

The DD PrintClub has grown into a community of more than 19,000 makers around the world. They share amazing builds, ask questions, paint and modify everything in surprising ways, and push every design further than I would on my own. A lot of the catalogue exists because someone in our Facebook group asked for it. Some of the most popular models started as a back-and-forth there.
